LibraryThe Center maintains a lending library of donated books. Members are permitted to borrow up to 5 books at a time. The library operates on the honor system. Donated BooksSome of you have expressed interest in what happens to book donations. It’s hard to specify exactly because there’s so much flexibility involved. We try to use as many donated books as possible on our shelves, however, we encounter many duplicates and space is at a premium. Amazingly, we process approximately 5,000 books per month, so some donations go directly to our money-raising book sales, since our storage capacity is limited. We do not accept: outdated text books, encyclopedias or large donations of Reader’s Digest Condensed Books; soiled, mildewed, water, or smoke-damaged books or magazines; or large donations of National Geographic Magazines. And remember, all book and/or magazine donations must be boxed before bringing in to the Center’s Front Desk or Gift Shop counter. Leftover book sale inventory goes mainly to hospitals, The Salvation Army, Bishops Attic, and The SPCA, who believe it or not, actually come to the Center and pick them up! All income from book sales goes back into the Center’s General Fund to help keep the doors open. Most members don’t realize the Center has to generate, on its own, about two-thirds of its yearly operating budget and your donations certainly are appreciated! |
