Library

The Center maintains a lending library of donated books. Members are permitted to borrow up to 5 books at a time. The library operates on the honor system.

Donated Books

Some of you have expressed interest in what happens to book donations. It's hard to specify exactly because there is so much flexibility involved. We try to use as many donated books as possible on our shelves. Space, however, is at a premium; also, we encounter many duplicates.

Amazingly, we process in excess of art estimated 5,000 books a month, so some donations go directly to our money-raising book sales, as storage has limits, too! Outdated textbooks and encyclopedias go directly to thrift store organizations. Also we have donated books, transported by members, to outlying areas such as Hope, Homer, Kenai and Seward. Leftover book sale inventory has gone mainly to hospitals and the Salvation Army.

All income from book sales goes into the ASAC general fund - which helps to keep our doors open. Most members don't realize the Center has to generate, on its own, about two-thirds of its yearly budget.
