The Anchorage Senior Activities Center enhances the quality of life for people 55+ years old in the Anchorage area by providing a gathering place, with opportunities for recreation, education, socializing, and exploration. Visitors are always welcome and facility tours are available. Click here to find out what regular events are on tap for today or become a member with this Membership Application form. The Senior Center is a scent-free facility for all, including staff, members, volunteers, and visitors. Please wear only unscented personal products within the Center building.

The Alaska Chapter of Compassion and Choices will hold a free public meeting at the ASAC. The meeting will focus on the efforts to make Hawaii the fourth state to legalize physician-assisted death. Proponents and opponents are locked in over a 102-year-old provision of state law that seems to allow it. Highlights of 21 days of testimony in B.C. Supreme Court (now awaiting judgment) on the constitutionality of Canada's Law will also be considered. Meeting attendees may also view the C&C DVD film 'Nudging the Law'. Better Choices, Better Health

Who can take part?

Do you have arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, emphysema, MS, asthma, obesity, depression, cancer, high blood pressure, HNJAIDS, kidney disease, pain or another long-term condition?

Anyone living with a chronic health condition is welcome.

Your spouse, a family member or care giver can also participate.

Program details
  • Living Well Alaska is a six-week workshop held once a week. Each session is 2.5 hours and covers a variety of topics and interactive learning opportunities.
  • The workshop, book and all materials are free. Light refreshments will be served at each session.
  • Living Well Alaska is sponsored by the State of Alaska, Department of Health and Social Services, and Providence Health and Services.

AARP Tax Aide

FREE AARP Tax Help coming to the Center

Mondays and Thursdays Starting February 2, 2012
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Free Federal tax preparation help will be offered again at your Senior Center starting Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012. Counselors will be available every Monday and Thursday except when the Senior Center is closed for a holiday, from 9 AM to 3 PM. What to bring:

  1. Copy of last year's income tax return
  2. Social Security cards for each person on the return
  3. W-2 Forms from each employer and/or business income
  4. Unemployment compensation statements SSA-1099 form if you received Social Security benefits
  5. 1099-R if you received a pension or annuity
  6. All 1099 forms (1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, 1099-MISC) showing interest and/or dividends and documentation showing original purchase price of sold assets
  7. All forms indicating federal income tax paid
  8. Dependent care provider information (name/ employer, address, EIN/Social Security number)
  9. List of medical expenses, contributions, mortgage interest, property taxes, business expenses, medical and/or business mileage
  10. Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit
