Frequently Asked Questions About the Garden Gala
What is the attire for the Summertime Soirée?
Guests are invited to embrace an atmosphere of timeless elegance set against the backdrop of a grand and historic estate. Attire should reflect a polished, garden-inspired semi-formal style—think flowing midi or maxi dresses, tailored suits, seersucker patterns, dressy separates, and refined silhouettes with a touch of romance.
Our color story draws from a warm, golden-hour palette: soft sunset hues paired with sage green, moss, ivory, and accents of gold. Light, breathable fabrics and graceful details such as florals, lace, or subtle patterns are encouraged to complement the natural surroundings.
As the event will take place on a grass lawn, we recommend opting for footwear suitable for outdoor terrain—heels are not advised. The tented space will be heated for comfort throughout the evening.
The overall aesthetic is elevated and sophisticated with a garden-party sensibility—perfect for an evening of beauty, charm, and purpose.
Who will be catering the gala?
The Hotel Captain Cook will be catering the gala, led by Executive Chef Patrick Hoogerhyde. We will also have a special dessert crafted by their pastry chef. The menu planned for the Garden Gala is extraordinary and we think our guests will thoroughly enjoy the dinner!
What is The Marilaine?
The Marilaine was named by Bob and Evangeline Atwood for their daughters, Marilyn and Elaine. John and Candace Hendrix are honoring the Atwood Family by continuing to refer to the home as “The Marilaine”.
How do I get to The Marilaine and where should I park?
Gala guests may park at West Anchorage High School. Shuttle service will be provided between the school and The Marilaine. Below are directions and a map of the parking area and Garden Gala site.
